The problem
DIY Projects publishes free plans, tutorials and step-by-step guides for woodworking, crafts and home improvement. It began life as diyready.com.
Moving a content site to a new domain is risky. Years of articles, bookmarks and links from other sites all point at the old address. If those links break, readers land on errors and the site loses the search visibility it spent years earning.
What I built
I was on the Native Commerce dev team that looked after the site, the same team behind Survival Life. I was involved in part of the migration from diyready.com to diyprojects.com. I was not there for the full sunset of the old domain, and the site has since been maintained by others.
How it works
The move rests on a permanent redirect. A 301 tells browsers and search engines that a page has moved for good, so old links keep working and search ranking carries over to the new address.
That redirect is still in place. Visit diyready.com today and you land on diyprojects.com, which still runs on WordPress.
